POLITICAL EXPERIENCE

Howard J. Hunter III was born and raised in Ahoskie, Hertford County, NC. Growing up in the heart of District 5, Howard developed a deep-rooted connection to his community and a passion for public service. He attended Chowan University, where he honed his leadership skills and cultivated a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

A Legacy of Service

 

Howard's commitment to serving his community runs in the family. He has upheld a tradition of compassionate service in the funeral industry for three generations, and their dedication to supporting families during times of loss has been a cornerstone of their commitment to serving their community. His father, Howard Hunter, Jr., served as a state House member in the same district, setting a strong example of public service and dedication to the people of North Carolina. Inspired by his father's legacy, Howard embarked on his own journey in public service, determined to continue the tradition of advocacy and leadership.

 

Service in the North Carolina General Assembly

 

In 2014, Howard was elected to represent District 5 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Over the course of his tenure, Howard served on several influential committees, including the Agriculture Committee (Vice Chair), Appropriations on Information Technology Committee, Appropriations Committee, Ethics Committee, Families, Children, and Aging Policy Committee (Chair), House Finance Committee, Health Committee, Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House Committee, and House Transportation Committee. His diverse committee assignments allowed him to address a wide range of issues impacting North Carolinians, from agriculture and transportation to healthcare and fiscal policy.

Throughout his time in office, Howard has been a tireless advocate for the people of District 5. He has worked diligently to address the needs and concerns of his constituents, championing initiatives to promote economic development, improve access to healthcare, and support education and workforce development. Howard's leadership and dedication to serving others have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and constituents alike.
